Some farmed animals are farmed for their meat, others for their produce (such as their eggs or milk). Farmed animals live in environments largely controlled by humans, reliant on them for food, shelter, comfort and care. Humans decide if farmed animals will breed, and when their lives will come to an end.
We unravel the ways that food labels address the health and happiness of all animals involved in the farming of food. We consider animals that are intentionally eaten, and animals that are farmed for their produce or offspring.
